A few days ago I posted a text to congratulate Hans Blohm who has become a member of the Order of Canada. Today, we would like to also mention that, in the same list of nominees, we find Mrs Aaju Peter. Aaju has also been appointed member of the Order for her contributions to the preservation and promotion of Inuit culture and language. Hans was very happy to hear of the nomination of Aaju whom he photographed during the Inuit Circumpolar Council held in Nuuk, Greenland in July 2010.
As for me, I had the pleasure of chatting with Aaju in January 2010 during the Northern Lights trade show held in Montreal. Aaju was greeting visitors to the Adventure Canada stand and I took the opportunity to chat with her about the North. One of the reasons I remember Aaju is the fact that she was (and still is) the only inuk I had met who wears the traditional inuit tatoos.
This morning, I had the surprise and great pleasure of receiving an email from Hans Blohm in which he was sharing a few of his favorite photographs that he took of Aaju in 2010. What a treat to be able to share with you these photos of this new member of the Order of Canada that were taken by another new member of the Order!!!
Congratulations Aaju! Thank you Hans!
