History
Computer consultant by profession, France Rivet has always had a passion for traveling, hiking and photography.
- In 2005, during her first trip to Nunavut, she is bitten by the «Arctic bug».
- In 2006, she once again travels north of the 66th parallel, this time on the European side. She returns from this trip around the Svalbard archipelago, in Norway, with a stronger passion for the Polar Regions.
During that two-year period, she realized how the service offer related to the Polar Regions is deficient in Quebec. Namely, very few books are available in bookstores; travel agencies are too often caught off guard when a client asks for information on polar destinations.
- In spring 2007, she decides to put an end to her computer consulting career in order to dedicate all her time and efforts to the creation of an enterprise, Polar Horizons, aimed at countering the lack of information and at showing the North's beauties and attractions.
- In summer 2007, she spends 2 months on Somerset Island, Nunavut, and returns with over 2 000 photographs.
- In 2008, Polar Horizons starts its activities by developing a first collection of hand-made greeting cards and by organizing a photo exhibit entitled «Somerset Island: white ghosts country». Received with a lot of enthusiasm, by spring 2010, the exhibit will have been shown in over 15 municipalities in western Quebec and eastern Ontario.
- In spring 2009, at the request of clients, new card collections are developed on the theme of Nature.
- In spring 2009, as a complement to the Somerset Island photo exhibit, Polar Horizons develops a presentation for primary school students which is given to 6 classes in the Montreal area.
- In spring 2009, at the request of another primary school, Polar Horizons prepares a new presentation on the theme of "ice" (icebergs, glaciers, ice floes).
- In fall 2009, Polar Horizons adds a third school presentation on Arctic Wildlife and prepares two new conferences for adults (Nunatsiavut and Svalbard) which should be available for Spring 2010.
